Jodhpur's old city is at its most spectacular in the 45 minutes before and after sunset. The sandstone of Mehrangarh Fort turns from amber to deep gold, the blue houses below catch the last light, and the city — for a brief window — is entirely still.
The Rani Mahal's rooftop terrace sits directly below the fort walls, giving an unobstructed view that no street-level vantage point can match. The Sundowner is a curated hour on the rooftop: Rajasthani snacks passed by the kitchen, a folk musician playing softly, and drinks as the fort lights come on one by one.
It is available to all staying guests as part of the evening. Private setups — a dedicated table, a flower arrangement, a personalised menu — can be arranged with 24 hours' notice. It is the most requested element of a stay at the haveli, and the one guests write about most.
